人吉･球磨に復興型の熱中小学校(大人の学び舎)開設を。

2020年7月4日の記録的な大雨により、熊本県南地域を中心に甚大な被害が発生しました。
避難所や仮設住宅、がれきや土砂の撤去、必要物資の配給、医療体制の整備など、ここに暮らす方々の生活の確保が急務であることは言うまでもありませんが、一方で、この地域が本当の意味で復興するには、1年、2年と長い期間を要します。

このたび、全国15地域、アメリカを加えて16の地域で大人のための社会塾『熱中小学校』の運営を担う事務局が集結し、これからの復興を支援すべく寄付を広く募ることにいたしました。

我々が、今動いていること

「熱中小学校」に関連するコミュニティは、国内生徒1,000人、先生250人、事務局や関係者など1,500人のメンバーが縦横に連携しています。

豪雨の翌週月曜日には、全校の事務局がZOOMで会議を行い、必要な物資などを現地のニーズと調整し、受け入れ態勢を確認した上で、被災地に最も近い宮崎県のこばやし熱中小学校を中継拠点とし、既存の熱中コミュニティのFBグループで、現地の状況を随時情報発信しいていくことを決定しました。それからすぐに先発隊として熱中こばやし理事長、生徒ボランティアが水や生活物資を積んで現地入り、9日から11日にはこばやし熱中小学校の校長が生徒ボランティアと共に追加の支援物資を運搬し、現地での泥の掻き出しや物品の運び出しなどをしました。

私たちの願い、想い

私たちは1年ほどかけて、本年10月に全国で16校目となる熱中小学校『ひとよしくま熱中小学校』を開校すべく、準備を進めてきました。

実はそれに先立つ4月には、昨年の台風19号で甚大な水害に見舞われた宮城県丸森町が”知とこころのボランティア”の活動としての「熱中小学校丸森復興分校」をスタートしました。災害地となった地域だからこそ、この熱中小学校が地域でのリーダーシップを発揮して復興を推進したい、そんな想いでした。開校前の3月に開催のオープンスクール（オンライン）には、その時点で開校を決めていた熊本県から「くまモン」が収録スタジオに駆け付けてくれ、PRに一役買っていただきました。くまモンの励ましもあって、6月には首都圏及び東北から73名が入学し、その後の2回の授業後には、「勇気がもらえる」「仲間がこんなにいることに気づいた」「やりたいことが見えてきた」など、多くのポジティブな意見が寄せられています。

今度は、私たちがくまモンをはじめとする熊本の方々にお返しをしたいのです。度重なる被災にも「熊本は諦めない」、そんな思いを受け止めて、熊本の復興を推進する「ひとよしくま熱中小学校」の開校にお力を貸してください。

以下の写真はこの8月にオープンスクールを行い、10月から授業することになっていた施設、くまりば（人吉市まち・ひと・しごと総合交流館)の復旧活動の様子です。

これまで様々な災害復興に直面してきた我々は、そうした「生活の復旧」と並行しながら、現地で人が集う場所をつくり、そこに域外の方々も集まり、そこでさまざまな交流や学びを得て、継続的に少しずつでも質の高い生活･経済･社会を築きなおす意欲を高め、実行していく仕組みが重要なことを学んできました。
私たちは、熱中コミュニティをベースに、今できるベストを尽くします。そしてそれを一過性のものとせず継続していきます。

支援金は、教室となる会場の復旧整備や備品調達、そして開校のための様々な活動に役立てます。具体的には、教室の壁、床の修復、椅子･机、授業に必要となるプロジェクタや音響機材、エンタランスやトイレ、洗面所などの整備費用です。
ご支援いただいた寄付は、ひとよしくま熱中小学校の運営母体である一般社団法人ドットリバーが責任を持ってその使途を確定し、皆様に公開します。

【熱中小学校丸森復興分校について】
2019年初頭より、江戸時代から仙台への河川物流の要所として栄えた宮城県丸森町に、熱中小学校を開設すべく準備を進めていました。10月、台風19号がこの地を襲い、町の多くの地区が氾濫した水に浸食されました。人命救助から崩壊した道路や護岸の復旧、浸水家屋の整理などが進む中、新たにまちを造り直す人々の団結と気持ちを高め、前を向いて学びなおすために「復興分校」として2020年6月より授業、活動を始めています。
この地における授業にご参加いただくことは、皆様にとっても、地元の方々にとっても、極めて意義深いものと考えております。

Supporting Southern Kumamoto’s Disaster Stricken Areas – Converging Powers to Restore, Rehabilitate and Revive

Establish a Necchu Elementary School (for adults) that helps revive Hitoyoshi Kuma.

On July 4, 2020, Southern Kumamoto was hit with record-breaking torrential rain, and the subsequent flooding and landslides left a devastating impact on the region. Much disaster relief efforts are still needed: Temporary housing, medical supplies, essential lifelines to help rescue and reconstruct the lives of those living here. Even after an initial relief, complete restoration may well take over years.
In response to this disaster, 16 governing offices (15 in Japan and 1 in Seattle, USA) of Necchu schools, which usually operate schools and events specializing in social education for adults, have come together to support the reconstruction of Southern Kumamoto. We greatly appreciate your support.

WHAT WE ARE DOING NOW

The Necchu Elementary School community is comprised of 1,500 people, including 1,000 students, 250 teachers and office members. We held a Zoom conference with all our offices soon after the severity of this disaster was reported. Collaborating with Kobayashi Necchu School, located in Miyazaki Prefecture and is the closest school to the disaster-stricken area, we decided to send disaster relief carefully considering local needs. We also decided to spread the news and situation in our Necchu Community Facebook group. We took swift action, and soon the chairman of Kobayashi Necchu School entered Kumamoto with student volunteer with water and essential supplies. From 9 - 11 of July, the principal of Kobayashi Necchu School visited the sites delivering additional goods and co-operated with the clean up of the city.

OUR HOPE

We had already spent a year preparing to open our 16th Necchu School in Japan, Hitoyoshi Kuma Necchu Elementary School, which was expected to open its doors October this year. Earlier in June, we had opened Necchu School Marumori Branch in Marumori, Miyagi Prefecture, as a center focused in volunteer activities “for wisdom and heart.” Marumori had been stricken hard by Typhoon Hagibis, and we wanted to support and take leadership in the reconstruction of the community through this school. Kumamon, the famous mascot for Kumamoto Prefecture, joined our open school event for Necchu School Marumori Branch, which was held online in March and helped us promote the opening to a broader public. With this help, 73 students enrolled and joined our school, and the subsequent two lectures were met with positive feedback from these students. Just to introduce a few: “I was deeply encouraged and inspired”, “I noticed how many same-minded colleagues and friends were around me”, “I finally noticed what I really wanted to do”…

Now it is the time to give back to Kumamon, and the people of Kumamoto. How hard and how often do these disasters batter Kumamoto, Kumamoto will stand strong again. With such hope, I wish and ask you to help us open Hitoyoshi Kuma Necchu Elementary School.

From our past experiences with disaster recovery, in addition to restoring life to the way it was before, we learned the importance of creating a space for people from within and outside the area to gather, interact, and exchange ideas to motivate rebuilding and improve the quality of their lives, economy, and society.

HOW YOUR DONATION HELPS

Donations will be used to restore the venue that will house the classrooms, procure equipment, and fund various activities leading up to the school’s opening. Specifically, it will help cover costs for restoration of the classroom walls and floors, procurement of chairs, desks, projectors and audio equipment needed for classes, as well as preparation of the entrance, bathrooms, and washrooms.
The Dot River Association that operates the Hitoyoshi Kuma Necchu Elementary School, will manage all donations, determine the most suitable use, and publicly share that information.

ABOUT NECCHU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND NECCHU GAKUEN

The Necchu Elementary School project began in 2015 as a learning space for adults.
By 2020, the project had grown to 16 locations within Japan, and 1 overseas. With the participation of over 250 volunteer teachers from various fields and more than 1,000 students, we strive to provide new learning opportunities that are rooted in the community and integrate practices that are unique to each area.

This crowdfunding campaign has been implemented by Necchu Gakuen Inc., who supports the establishment of Necchu Elementary Schools and its activities. By working together with groups, organizations, and corporations that address social issues centered on an aging population/low birth rate, population numbers, and a concentrated economy, this project aims to create an enriching, fulfilling environment that contributes to regional revitalization through personnel development and new value creation.
